My next guess is that expansion contraction of the siding is causing the noise.
Unfortunately if it isn t installed properly some kinds of vinyl cladding can make noises that last for weeks or even months.
When it is windy there is a lot of noise which seems to be in the wall.
Does the sound of vinyl siding expanding make noise similar to rain hitting it.
The exterior is vinyl siding and the soffits are metal.

The problem is a noise problem that occurs when it is quite windy.
The stronger the wind the louder the sound.
If you grab the middle piece then pull on it it is very loose and you can pull it and it will make that same noise i am hearing.
If your siding is nailed too tight you may hear some cracking or popping sounds.
The only play is that this siding on the exposed part it is two pieces wide.
