Those blades cut the wood and debris at a 45 degree angle which gives a great deal of uniformity in the way the chips come out.

If a chipper blade becomes too dull much of the blade itself will have to be removed during the intensive sharpening process. Often operators consider wood chipper blades to be a disposable item. For sharpening chipper blades a 100 grit sanding disc is recommended.
